Me and the Bee

There’s a new playground at the Smithsonian National Zoo, and by new I mean it opened over the winter. But we finally got around to checking it out earlier today and it’s really nice. As you can guess by the name it is a bee themed playground with honeycombs and flowers to jump and climb on. It’s definitely geared toward the younger crowd–the structures aren’t too large that a younger toddler couldn’t enjoy. The older kids always manage to find a way to make the most out of things, seeing some manage to climb on top of the metal flowers that tower above. There’s also a little cover on part of the play things, which is much needed for DC’s sweltering and humid summers.

Overall it is a nice little addition to the zoo. It’s also perfectly situated by the Children’s farm and the brand new bathrooms by Mane Grill. The bathrooms are really nice and also include a family restroom. I think the one thing that may turn off most parents about the playground is your children may never want to leave that area–I mean you have goats, cows, alpacas, chickens, bathrooms, and food all close by. But hopefully you’ll be able to convince your kids to see other parts of the zoo.
