Skip Hop Zoo Little Kid and Toddler Backpack

I originally bought this Skip Hop Zoo Little Kid and Toddler Backpack when my son was 2 years old and started preschool. I mean a kid needs a backpack when they go to school right?! Little did I know a 2 year old can barely carry anything on their back save for a few pieces of paper. And so we really didn’t use it much for preschool.

However, we did take it on a trip to DC from California when he was 2.5 years old. We had our son pack a few toys he wanted to play with on the airplane and stuck a few snacks in there. He loved his bag cause he was like his mom and dad and had a bag all to himself. But when it came down to carrying it around the airport it was just too cumbersome for him. Again, at that age he can’t carry much on his back unless I want to ruin his back. So we ended up carrying it for him, which wasn’t so bad since the bag wasn’t that terribly heavy.

Now at age 4, my son takes his backpack when he can, which he tries to argue is all the time! We primarily use it to keep his change of clothes and a towel when he goes to swim class. The bag surprisingly holds a lot for its size–we can fit a nap mat in this bag! Because it can hold so much, it makes for a great over night bag if your child is invited to a sleepover. I also love the cute animal characters that you can match with other Skip Hop items. My son also loves the animal characters; he knows he has tigers and his sister’s things are the lady bugs.

If you are looking for a lighter piece of luggage for travel for an older child, you should consider the Skip Hop. Just be mindful about the weight so that you don’t hurt your child’s back. Overall a very good, sturdy backpack for children.
