Maclaren Triumph Stroller

While we were visiting Helsinki we took a day trip to Tallinn, Estonia. In an effort to travel lightly (and the hate I have for our double stroller) we only brought our Baby Jogger City Mini. Our son was 3, going on 4, at the time. So we knew he could walk longer distances at a some what respectable pace. And if all else fails we could carry/wear my daughter so that he could rest in the stroller. This usually works because we would always be home for nap time so my daughter could take her nap. However, this posed a huge challenge for us when we went to Tallinn since we would be away from after breakfast until dinner time! Luckily our Airbnb host gave us access to their stroller, which happened to be an older model Maclaren Triumph stroller. I was actually excited about trying out this stroller since it was one of the more popular strollers when we lived in San Francisco.

The Triumph is soooooooo light! It was night and day compared to our City Mini. You could easily carry this stroller up several flight of stairs or where ever you need to go. I was so envious about the weight.

It surprisingly folds really easily. I tried umbrella strollers before settling on our stroller. And most were just rigid and/or counterintuitive. The Maclaren folds with such ease and smoothness it made me rethink my hesitance about umbrella strollers.

However, it was not the best stroller to handle the cobblestone roads of Tallinn. I mean it did hold up well, but it wasn’t necessarily the smoothest of rides and I felt like the wheels would just pop off since it felt like we were off roading. There were a lot of times we had to physically lift the front wheels up to get over larger humps, and it was just a lot easier to do that with our other stroller vs. the Maclaren. But if you are on just normal sidewalks, this stroller was perfectly smooth and the handles very comfortable for pushing.

The basket is easily accessible. But you couldn’t put much in the basket, certainly not a large baby bag or large backpack. You can hang some bags from the handles, but it’s always safest to stow things in the basket. You can put smaller things directly underneath the seat and the larger stuff in the back.

Price tag! Maclaren’s are super expensive!!! The price is competing against luxury traditional strollers. If it weren’t so expensive, I would totally have this stroller in my arsenal.

Overall, if you are looking for an extremely lightweight stroller that is a sturdy umbrella stroller, I would totally recommend the Maclaren (and if price is no obstacle). This stroller definitely gives me stroller envy. I wish my husband wouldn’t question my purchasing of strollers so much because I would soooooo buy one of their double strollers in a heart beat!
