From Bacolod to Boracay

Yesterday we left Bacolod, again at silly o’clock, to catch a roro (ferry) to take our hired van to Dumangas (2 hour ride). Once in Dumangas we drove to the other side of the island to Caticlan (almost a 5 hour drive). We then took a pump boat to Boracay (20 minutes). This may seem a bit crazy to some, but it was the best option. There were no direct flights from Bacolod to Caticlan, so we would have had to fly to Cebu first. We also saved a lot–only paid a quarter of what airfare would have cost the 9 of us and our heavy luggage.

The trip was going well–kids had fun playing with their iPads. But provincal roads in the Philippines can be hit or miss. We encountered windy roads, some with huge pot holes for miles, or just all together rocky roads still under construction. This resulted in O vomiting between naps. He still pushed on and managed the last hour well, probably because we made him play I Spy for that hour.

Boracay at sunset.

Thankfully we made it in time for the kids to play in the sand for half an hour as we saw the sunset. O and S are both loving the beach life. So much so S refused to go to bed last night. She kept trying to open the hotel door saying she wants to play on the beach.

Internet at our hotel seems to be shotty right now. But hopefully it will work later tonight and I can post again.
